Invitation to the 30th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring

I am delighted to invite you to the 30th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM), which will be held on May 25 (Saturday) and 26 (Sunday), 2013 at Sojo University Citizens Hall and Kumamoto International Center (both located in Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City).
Founded in 1984, the Society will be celebrating its milestone 30th anniversary in 2013, and the principal theme of the conference is “New Challenges in TDM−Celebrating the 30th Anniversary in Kumamoto.” While we will of course be taking up the challenge of more advanced individualized dosage regimens, through the conference we also want to address “new challenges,” such as beginning TDM practice for those attending the conference for the first time, broadening practical use for those experienced in TDM, TDM practice for newly-approved drugs targeted for TDM use, and new clinical research making use of the latest TDM-related information.

We are planning a program of main events comprising special lectures, and others given by invited speakers and the chairman, together with four symposia: (1) TDM for renal function deterioration, (2) the 30th anniversary project: “Future Directions for TDM−PK-PD-PGx, Pharmacometrics,” (3) examination of TDM guidelines for antimicrobial drugs, and (4) chemical addiction and TDM. As a new addition to this annual meeting, we are planning to hold 8 educational seminars, at which bases, practical use and cases for 8 specially selected drugs where TDM is required will be explained. The annual meeting will be further augmented with seminars where participants can experience TDM analysis for themselves, as well as through an exhibition. It is our hope that the participation of and lively discussion between people involved in a wide range of work, such as those in clinical practice, researchers, students and those belonging to pharmaceutical companies, will lead to the development and spread of improved TDM and improved individualized drug therapy.

A large number of participants is expected, which will enable the 30th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of TDM to make a real contribution to the development of TDM. We look forward to seeing you in Kumamoto!
